Based on a 55 year old starting point, one can extend 3.1 years onto their life by eating smaller portions. Based on a new statistic- the French, despite their traditional, high fat diet, get much less heart disease than Americans. Researchers previously attributed this exclusively to their red wine consumption. More recent findings have revealed that food portion sizes in France are about half the size of those in America. Only 6% of adults in France are obese, compared with 18 % in the US. How do the French do it? They use nine-inch plates rather than the 11 or 13 inch plates typical in the US.
In addition to using the 9 inch plate it would be even more beneficial to leave space between food groups and eat slowly, and stop eating once you feel full. This advice is in addition to cutting down on the consumption of refined carbohydrates. (My best advice for pet weight control).
I’m sure that many that read this advice will be disappointed about the red wine theory being eliminated. I guess we can all believe that both practices will help in the weight reduction process.
