Rising Temperatures

We are all starting to feel the rising temperatures. The heat can not only become unbearable for us, but our pets as well. There are a wide range of tips that will help combat this rising heat. If you are looking for ways to keep your pet happy and healthy this summer season, keep on reading!

One of the first, and TOP recommendations for this summer season is to switch over to Freeze-Dried. With temperatures reaching 100+ degrees in certain areas, it makes the frozen BARF® Diets more susceptible to thawing in transit. When switching to BARF World Freeze-Dried Diets, there are many added benefits, such as:

Beagle running in grass with a stick in its mouth
  • Flexible shipping
  • Shelf stable for 18 months from manufactured date
  • Convenient for travel
  • Concentrated flavor
  • Highly palatible for your pet

Another crucial recommendation is to stay hydrated! Dehydration can occur quickly, especially in pets with thick and long coats. Whether this be on walks, or at home, making sure clean drinking water is available will help keep your pets cool and hydrated. In our BARF World® corporate office, we like to include a few ice cubes in our fur babies' water bowl to help keep them cool.

An additional cause for concern with rising temperatures is the hot pavement. Growing up, I would take my yellow lab, Chamois on walks. My mom would always tell me to go and touch the pavement with my hand first before I took Chamois out for our daily walk. The first time I heard this I was very confused and had no idea what she was talking about. She explained that pets' paws are very sensitive to hot and cold. If I could hold my hand on the pavement and it wasn’t too hot, then it was safe to take her on a walk. If not, I would have to check again later when it was cooler. Daily walks in the cooler times of the day are ideal for a comfortable walk that both you and your pet can enjoy! Stay safe and enjoy your summer!

A quick tip: Freezing fresh berries, yogurt, bone broth or a Freeze-Dried BARF Nugget in an ice tray can create a refreshing and hydrating treat for your pet!
