Mookie's Must-Have Product Of The Month:

Diatomaceous Earth

Why use harsh flea and tick treatments and chemicals when there's a safe, natural alternative that's just as effective? Lumino’s Diatomaceous Earth (DE) flea and tick powder is your “secret weapon” to a happy, flea and tick-free home. Diatomaceous earth is a fine powder composed of the crushed fossilized exoskeletons of microscopic diatoms (unicellular algae commonly found in the ocean). This remarkable substance, when applied to your pet’s coat, is a desiccant that dries out the waxy outer shell of ticks and fleas, causing them to perish from dehydration.

Unlike most toxic flea and tick products, Lumino DE is a food-grade, chemical-free flea and tick powder, that destroys these pests so they cannot become immune to its action. Diatomaceous earth can be used anywhere ticks are found. Simply dust the Lumino D.E. powder on your carpets, bedding, litter boxes, and especially on your pet’s coat. No itch, not pests, no problem.

Diatomaceous Earth is only $16.97!

Tick & Flea Medication Dangers

By Monica Reyes

Not only am I a pet parent with a tabby cat named Phil and pup named Mookie, but I also have a 23 month old son. As a mom, I know how important it is to be cautious of dangerous chemicals. As pet owners, we know how important it is to maintain the health of our furry friends. Not only do harmful chemicals affect our pets, but they affect our families as well. I know I do not want my son playing with Phil and Mookie when they their fur is coated in dangerous tick and flea meds.

Our dogs and cats are always in need of their flea and tick medication, especially during this time of the year when these pests are in season and ready to bite! As we all know these medications are full of highly concentrated toxic chemicals; and yet we continue to give these medications to our pets. That being said I wanted to share the specific dangers of ticks and a natural way to get rid of these pests!

As many of you already know fleas and ticks are both pests that are not only a bother, but can carry infectious diseases. Ticks in particular are not considered an insect but are arachnids, and have eight legs like spiders. I consider ticks to be the more of serious pests because they have more hosts than fleas, which includes birds, snakes, raccoons, deer, our beloved dogs and cats, and US! They live in timbered areas until they can attach on to a host, and are not easy to get rid of. They can survive in freezing and hot temperatures, where as fleas prefer a warmer temperature. They also lay thousands of eggs at once, and can live from several weeks to 3 years.

It is very important for us pet parents to keep an eye out for these 8-legged nuisances. Once they latch on, they can be found in the nooks and crannies of our pet’s fur. After a walk or play-time at the park, it may be wise to check your pet for ticks. If you happen to find one be sure to pull it straight out without bending, and clean the skin properly with a disinfectant. It is important to carefully remove a tick from its body because you do not want the tick to leave any body parts behind, especially its head.

Where to find ticks on your pet

  • Between toes
  • Around head and tail
  • In and behind ears
  • Armpits
Ticks can spread DEADLY diseases such as Lyme diseases. Be sure to look out for signs of lethargy, flu symptoms, joint swelling and exhaustion. If you notice any of these symptoms go see your vet immediately to prevent any chance of spreading disease and illness.

Along with our completely balance and wholesome diet, our new product can assist in flea and tick prevention. Here at BARF World we have found a way to get rid of both ticks and fleas naturally. We have recently started carrying a product called Lumino Diatomaceous Earth. Why use harsh flea and tick treatments and chemicals when there's a safe, natural alternative that's just as effective?

Lumino Diatomaceous Earth for Pets is a mechanical flea killer so fleas cannot become immune to its action. Not only is it a flea killer, but it safe to ingest, and has been known to help with the treatment to intestinal worms. The powder can be used on furniture, bedding, carpet, and the coat of our pets. In fact I have recently used it in my home. I sprinkled some on Mookie’s bed and applied some to her coat and Phil’s coat. It was nice to know that I was not harming her or any member of my family. Not to mention that Mookie and my son could still play, and they did not need to be separated because of her flea and tick meds.
