Variety supplies more
than the 'spice of life' ...
Variety supplies a healthy, natural, grain-free diet.
Many pets eat the same foods every day, day
after day, week after week, year after year. Their typical
menu is based upon one particular brand of commercially processed
food or protein source. For the most part, this keeps feeding
simple for the pet owner. But if you feed a repetitive diet
and wonder about the healthfulness of this, you might want
to think about the benefits of feeding more variety to your
pet. Feeding an assortment of foods helps your pet receive
a wider variety of nutrients. It also reduces the chances
of getting excessive amounts of a food that might be harmful
such as too much of one particular vitamin or mineral.
By eating many different nutritional, healthy
foods, your dog consumes more of the known compounds that
various foods offer, including vitamins and minerals as well
as phytonutrients and the many other health protectors found
in whole foods. As well, whole food nutrients are better
absorbed
than 'inorganic' supplements. Studies suggest that consuming
a variety of foods is healthier and reduces risk of disease
such as cancer, which is now being seen as due to a lack
of
protective foods in the diet.
Because your dog, is a carnivore, an omnivore,
a hunter and a scavenger, his evolutionary diet is based on
a wide variety of whole raw foods of animal and plant origins.
With this in mind, do make sure you feed your dog a variety
of the BARF DIET patties or minces...
or both!
The combinations of feeding the
BARF DIET are endless!
Our delicious multi-mix patties ca be fed
with raw meaty bones, our meat and bone minces or other foods.
The patties provide excellent levels of nutrients for most
healthy dogs and in general the only modification that will
be required will be the amount that is fed. However, for
specialized dietary requirements or situations such as obesity
or lactation they can be modified in other ways.
There are several approaches
we can take to mimic an evolutionary diet with
BARF DIET patties and Minces.
The first approach...
is to provide nutritional balance over a series of meals.
One meal per day will usually be either whole or minced raw
meaty bones such as BARF Meat & Bone Minces,
while the second meal will involve rotating other evolutionary
types of foods such as:
- BARF DIET™ patties
- BARF Veggies & Fruit ( apple, cranberry, and/or blueberry, broccoli, carrots, spinach, bell peppers and lettuce.)
- BARF Offal Mince ( combination of heart, liver, kidney and tripe)
- BARF Unbleached Tripe Mince ( green tripe- contents removed)
The second approach
...
you may elect to feed an assortment of Dr. Billinghurst's
BARF DIET patties. Simple!
