Cali Girl’s Story

As a family of 4 pet lovers, we had the urge to add one more furry child to our family. We have a senior rescue that isn’t able to keep up with 2 active kids, and prefers to stick by his mama's side instead of being playful with rambunctious kids.  So we decided to rescue a younger pup that would complete our family.

The last two weeks we have spotlighted 2 our our BARF® World pets, Berkeley and Jax. As we continue to celebrate National Pet Month, this week we would like to introduce you to our sweet Cali.

One spring, rainy day I called my husband and told him that we should go checkout our local shelters. We decided to go after work, but we were just going to “look” that day. We walked down the cold shelter row by row several times trying to find a connection that we would have with one of the pups. We walked down one particular aisle a few times and we could not help but feel a connection to a thin pup that was labeled as       “Golden Retriever/Lab mix”. There was just something about her that kept bringing us back to her kennel. My daughter just kept getting drawn to her kennel and wanted to play with this       sweet pup. We tracked down a volunteer and asked if we could spend some time with her and another pup. There was just something about this one. I don’t know if it was her             playfulness,    the pink on her nose, or those puppy eyes that were tugging on all of our heart strings.

My husband said, “Alright, let’s go; we just came here to look”. We all  loaded up in the car, but I just did not have the heart to leave that shelter without her. I turned around and asked the   kids how they felt about us bringing her home that day. We were all in agreement and decided to adopt her that day! It was one of the best decisions we ever made as a family, and we couldn't imagine what our lives   would have been like if we left that day without her.

Cali loves belly rubs, napping in our beds, running and going on scavenger hunts for treats. She is a good chewer and loves Alpha Bones and Liver Sprinkles on top of any of the BARF Diet Chubs!

Check out next week’s e-zine to meet another one of our furry family members!
