The Cat’s Out of The Bag

As we close out the month of August and look forward to September; we’d like to take the time to honor our feline furiends.   As many of you know, September is “Happy Healthy Cat Month”, and here at BARF World® we are all about providing a healthy diet for cats as well as dogs, which in turn, makes for happy pets.

Did you know that there are actually scientific benefits in being a pet parent to your cat(s)?  According to Mentalfloss.com:

  1. Cats help you cope – Losing a loved one is incredibly painful, but one of the best ways of coping is to own a pet. Cats have been known to help people get over their loss more quickly, and show less physical symptoms of pain, like crying.
  2. They will also help you find a significant other - If you’re a single guy and you can’t seem to get a date, get a cat! A British poll found that 82 percent of women agreed they are more attracted to men who like animals.  (You guys can thank me later!)
  3. Cat owners are smart  - A 2010 survey of pet owners by the University of Bristol found that people who owned cats were more likely to have college degrees than their dog loving counterparts.
  4. You’ll have a healthier heart - Owning any pet is good for your heart. Cats in particular lower your stress level (possibly since they don’t require as much effort as dogs) and lower the amount of anxiety in your life. Petting a cat has a positive calming effect.
  5. You’ll sleep better - The Mayo Clinic Center for Sleep Medicine reported that 41 percent of the people in a sleep study indicated that they slept better because of their pet.
  6. Cats fulfill your need for companionship - The stereotype that dogs are more affectionate than cats is just that: a stereotype. In fact, it turns out that cats can be just as good of companions as dogs, especially for women.

BARF World has always been passionate about pets!  That is why in April of this year, we decided to launch our Freeze Dried Chicken & Salmon Diet for Cats!  Our cat diet consists of a dry food with the nutrition of fresh, wet, raw meat which is uniquely developed using a manufacturing process that eliminates the high heat processing that is used to make kibble dry food. BARF® World removes the moisture from the raw diet with a cold vacuum process. The result is a convenient, scrumptious food that is sure to have him/her feline fine!

A very important part of being a pet parent is choosing the most beneficial diet for your fur babies.  They depend on us to make the right nutritional choices for them.  If you haven’t done so already, check the BARF Word® Chicken & Salmon Cat Diet. It really is the cat’s meow!

Raw Food Tip:

Many pathogens will pass through a cat without causing any issues.  Most cats will tolerate raw food.  Therefore, many owners opt for a raw diet that mimics a cat's natural diet in the wild.

I saved my Angel Marie when I took her off prescription diet and changed her to raw. The transformation was more than amazing! I lost my baby girl to cancer at 16 yrs old, but she had many added yrs due to her switching to raw. It is amazing, and shows how we ALL are what we eat! I need to practice that for myself!!!!
I had 9 cats and 2 dogs, with old age and different illnesses, I now have 4 cats and one newer dog. All my pets have ended up with kidney failure and cancer!!!! All of them! There has GOT TO BE something to the FOODS we are buying our pets!
Now one of my 4 cats is in the beginning stages of renal failure. I know the drill all too well. Problem with this one is, she was abused by a vet when she was a kitten and now just to be examined must be sedated. She is not the type of pet to endure fluids two to three times a week to treat this illness.
I have her on prescription diet. She is picky and getting her to eat is a constant problem.
I think her kidneys are getting worse, she is drinking and peeing a lot!
The vet can not get her in to check her blood until Oct 2!! I was so mad today I had to hang up, she is on the elder program, and can have an exam and blood work, but to have it before this opening I would have to pay for an emergency apt. It always feels like vet care is all about money rather than the health of your pet, it makes me so upset!
So, I have that apt made, but in the meantime my brain went to liver sprinkles to try to get her to eat, when looking on your website I saw you are now making CAT FOOD!!!! YEAH!!!!!!
So, I get paid next week and will be trying out a bag of food for her! It states it is freeze dried, I am curious how this works. Hoping to add a positive testimonial for her as I have for my Angel Marie!!!!!

Hi Karin,

Thank you for your email and for trusting us enough to share your story. You are doing great job, and what an advocate you are for your fur babies!

Our Cat Diet is Freeze dried, so we do recommend that you reconstitute it with equal parts nuggets/warm water. E.g. if you feed a 1/4 cup nuggets, you will add 1/4 warm water. Some cats prefer it dry, so we do recommend that those cats have access to a water source.

We do have many feline friends who enjoy our frozen raw chicken and/or beef, too.

Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions or concerns. Thanks and stay well and keep up the amazing job as a pet parent!
