Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  There’s no pressure of gifts, candy, extensive decorating, etc. It’s just a celebration of family, friends and thanks. Even though I am the primary cook for our very large immediate family and it’s a lot of work, I love the joy of making all the yummy food for everyone to indulge.

However, this year brings a new challenge with one of our new additions; our 10 month old lab, Jax. His sweet, puppy dog eyes looking up at me when I am cooking are hard to not give into. Despite his best efforts,  I don’t give into the temptation! Here are a couple things to watch out for:

Cooking scraps, leftovers and those bites your kids might sneak to your beloved pooch may make them happy temporarily, but can also make them very sick (not to mention it encourages begging).

Also ensure all of your trash is disposed of somewhere secure and out of your dog’s reach. It’s easy to leave the trash can open or place a full trash back on the ground for a minute but dogs are fast and sneaky and can quickly grab things out of the trash.

Even just a minimal amount of scraps can throw off their gut health, making them feel miserable.  No one wants to have an emergency vet visit or extra cleaning to worry about if you end up with a sick puppy! Play it safe. As tempting as it may be, stick to your fur baby’s delicious BARF® Diet over the holidays.

Remember, our dogs are reliant upon us for their health and well-being. You may choose to indulge yourself a little extra this Turkey Day but that doesn’t mean your dog should! I encourage you to stock up on some healthy treats instead!

From all of us at BARF World® we encourage keeping your pup happy and healthy with mindful feeding. We also sincerely hope you enjoy the holiday with your family, and we are thankful for your customer loyalty and readership.

Wishing you a healthy, Happy Thanksgiving!
