Is Your Cat Really A Wild Cat Inside?

If I asked any of my cat friends this question, I would no doubt get a resounding “YES!”. It’s not hard to imagine by watching the behavior of your favorite feline friend. Look at the natural hunting skills, the pouncing behavior, and well, even the excessive amount of time they seem to sleep! You may be surprised to find out that domestic cats share 95% of the same DNA as “Big” cats such as Lions and Tigers. Since your household cat is scientifically related to “big” cats, it’s reasonable to conclude that domestic cats need to eat similar to their big cat ancestors and cousins. What do “big” cats eat?

The simple answer is meat. Big cats are carnivores. In fact they are what’s known as “obligate carnivores”. This means they must have animal protein to survive. What should their diet include? According to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, “Cats evolved as hunters that consume prey that contains high amounts of protein, moderate amounts of fat, and a minimal amount of carbohydrates, and their diet still requires these general proportions today. Cats also require more than a dozen other nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, and amino acids.” One of these amino acids is taurine, and it can only be found in animal based protein.

Over 38% of American households own a dog. But cats aren’t too far behind at 25%. Americans love their cats too. At BARF World® we know that your cat deserves to be just as healthy as your dog. That’s why we are so pleased to begin offering our Cat specific diet to you this month. Many of our clients have already been successfully feeding our raw diets to their cats. However, the reality is that cats can be much pickier than dogs. That’s why we’ve worked hard to bring you not just a biologically appropriate diet, but a diet your cats will crave! Our new Freeze Dried Salmon and Chicken formula will be sure to receive your cat’s purr of approval.

We’ve been keeping dogs healthy since 2000. BARF World® has come to be known as an expert in raw pet feeding. Now you can trust your cat to an expert too. Do you have a cat? Why? Because a healthy cat, is a BARF World® cat!

Raw Food Tip:

There are essential nutrients that felines need that cannot be acquired naturally from eating a cooked or kibble diet. Taurine, for example, is an essential amino acid that is found in raw meat (mainly organ meats), which is destroyed by the heat process of cooking. Cats lacking this essential amino acid can become sick and taurine deficiency can lead to heart complications.
