Picky Eater or Just a Phase?

A common concern and issue we have with our pet parents is getting their pets to eat consistently. There are many reasons why your pet can become finicky or lose their desire to eat their daily meal.

We hear that pets are:

  • Refusing to eat
  • Doesn’t like the food anymore
  • On a hunger strike

Believe it or not, these issues are completely normal. Just like our kids or us adults, we would get weary of eating the same thing everyday. However, there are a few things to look out for that could be creating disinterest when you are feeding your dog.  There are different scenarios and reasons that can contribute to your picky eater. Our team of experts can help you pinpoint the issue and come up with a plan to get your pet back on their routine!

Here are some things to look out for:

  • Is the meat discolored or smells foul?
  • Did your order arrive completely thawed?
  • Have you been feeding the same protein for months or years at a time?
  • Have you or someone in your family been sneaking your pet table scraps?

It is important to continue to invest in your pet’s health and not just create temporary resolutions. In order to have a healthy and happy pet for years to come it is critical that you don’t give up on your pet. Feeding the BARF® Diet is a long-term investment in your pet’s health. I know that you may think that the immediate solution is to switch brands or stop feeding the BARF® Diet right away. Actually, it’s the complete opposite. We recommend that you give us a call or send us an email with what you are experiencing and we will work together to come up with the best solution. Don’t give up on your pet. Sometimes the best solution is simply changing up the protein or adding our Freeze-Dried Nuggets to their meal.

Feeding the BARF® Diet for a few weeks or months is not enough. In some instances, we have  seen a pet parent who thinks their pet is healthy enough to discontinue feeding them the BARF diet.  It doesn’t take long for pet parents to reach out to us, wanting to return to feeding their fur baby our diet once again, due to health issues that flare up after taking them off the diet.  Don’t backslide to an unhealthy diet for your pet. Just because your pet is currently  healthy because they have been on the BARF® Diet, doesn’t mean the diet has finished doing it’s job.
