Secrets of Raw Feeding - Digestion Facts Most are Unaware of!

A proper diet is the single most powerful tool for prevention of disease.  Mother Nature provides the mechanisms that our pets need to best obtain the nutrients from their diet when they eat enzyme-rich foods. They need to eat what is biologically appropriate, which we provide with our BARF® Diet (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food).

Did you know that 55% of dogs and cats in the US are considered obese. They are at a higher risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and hip and joint difficulties.

Just observing a dog’s or cat’s physical attributes should convince even the most skeptical that carnivores/omnivores are designed to eat raw meat including the bones and organ meat, some vegetables and fruits, but not processed grains.

The key for any animal is to find a way to gain the maximum utilization of nutrients in the shortest period of time within the intestinal tract. Digestion times are different between dry pet foods and a raw diet. From mouth to tail, kibble takes up to 12-15 hours to digest while raw diets take approximately 5-8 hours to digest. The results in a kibble diet allows more time for fermentation and gas development.

When the food reaches the large intestine in larger particle sizes (because they weren’t broken down properly,) they create a feast for bacteria. They will begin to putrefy, giving off carbon dioxide and methane gas. Cooking does not increase the digestibility of food. The more a food is cooked, the further it compromises health. Improperly digested foods cause 80% of all diseases. Cooking also does not improve the nutritional value of food. It destroys 85% of the original nutrients, including most of the proteins and many of the vitamins.  Simply put, if the nutrients in food don’t reach the cells for rejuvenation, then the body’s health diminishes.

Phytochemicals are the reasons why raw food diets work their magic- they engage the enzyme activity in the body.  An enzyme-rich raw food diet offers the greatest advantage because it’s a natural, highly effective source of enzymes. It stimulates the animal’s own enzymatic processes to fight inflammation. Most importantly, an enzyme reserve in your pet’s digestive system is an extension of life.

Enzymes in raw food actually digest up to 75% of the food itself WITHOUT the help of the enzymes produced by your pets’ enzyme reserve. Once the enzyme reserve has been depleted, the bodily process begins to slow down and eventually stops, which consequently results in the end of life itself.

As pet owners we have an easier time changing the eating habits of our furry companions because we make the choices for them. Choosing a biologically appropriate raw food, such as the BARF® World Diet, for your pets will enhance their ability to fight off unwanted disease and be an important, proactive tool for the prevention of disease.

Don’t forget the wisdom of the ages. “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ~Hippocrates

Raw Food Tip:

The chicken that you buy at the local food store has a much higher degree of bacterial contamination than our bag of raw pet food. You can potentially expose your family to a higher incidence of salmonella, e-coli, or listeria when preparing the chicken from your local grocery store, on your kitchen counter.
