Snow Safety

With the winter season approaching, there are several potential hazards that require additional safety precautions. Plug-in heaters, ice, and salt can all lead to potential injuries for you and your pet. Here are some tips to keep you and your fur baby happy & healthy this winter season.

When the temperatures begin to drop many animals, especially cats seek shelter and warmth near car engines. Make sure to check all around your vehicle before starting the engine. It is also important to make sure any hazardous materials such as anti-freeze are safely out of reach to prevent any fires or injuries. If antifreeze or any other hazardous materials are consumed by your pet, take them to the vet immediately. These chemicals, even in small amounts can be fatal.

If you venture outside with your pet, it is crucial to check for ice and proceed with caution. When taking walks near any body of water it is important to keep your dog leashed at all times to prevent falling on ice. There are many breeds that enjoy the snow & cold weather, which is why it is also important to make sure you are dressed properly for the weather as well.

When applying salt outside, be sure that it is pet friendly. Using the incorrect salt to break down the ice, may potentially cause burns on your pet paws. It is recommended to use a paw pad shield to help prevent any paw related injuries. Try out Vet Worthy Paw Pad Shield Wax today!

If you or anyone you know orders BARF World® Frozen Patties or Chubs, a helpful tip that we recommend is using the styrofoam coolers as an outdoor shelter. Simply cut a hole in the side of the cooler, and add a blanket to the bottom for extra comfort for stray animals! This is a great way to get multiple uses & provide a safe space for any pet to prevent hypothermia.

Oftentimes, during the winter months certain areas will be heavily impacted by snow and as a result there are delays with shipments. Another cause for delays with carriers is due to the holidays. If this is the case, stock up on any of our Freeze-Dried Diets to prevent running out of food due to delays. Freeze-dried is shelf stable and has a shelf life of 18 months!
