Swimming Upstream

If you have ever read or studied the lifespan of a Salmon, one lesson that can be learned from salmon is sometimes you have to go against the flow.  Salmon don’t just float merrily along, they fight against the current, swimming upstream.

Swimming Upstream

If you have ever read or studied the lifespan of a Salmon, one lesson that can be learned from salmon is sometimes you have to go against the flow.  Salmon don’t just float merrily along, they fight against the current, swimming upstream.

I subscribe to a medical newsletter promoted by Dr. Bruce West. In his articles, I see a lot of the same degree of frustration that I have regarding advice for how to properly feed dogs and cats. Many times his advice is contrary to the opinions of mainstream physician, yet he has over 30 years of clinical experience and has been responsible for thousands of turn-a-round cures based on his advice.

My 40+ years of practical experience in manufacturing and selling raw meat diets follow the same channel of scrutiny and criticism as what he has experienced.  We both are dancing to a different tune when attempting to educate our clients on a better and more appropriate medical or feeding regime. In his case, he fights the “big money” politics and profitability of the drug companies, as well as the medical industry.

In my case, I fight the conventional marketing suggestions offered by the powerful and profitable dry food companies. In both cases, “big money” power lobbyists are factors preventing the spread of adequate and sound advice to clients that need the advice.

Like Dr. West, I have spent a lifetime of effort in attempting to spread the merits and advantages of raw feeding. I have faced the challenges of the dry food community and continue to follow the philosophy and beliefs that the philosophy of raw feeding is a sound and appropriate approach to feeding and generating better health for our pets.

Like the salmon that finally make the journey and deposit their offspring - Dr. West and I are swimming up stream in our efforts to spread our stories and experiences of health and vitality. He does it for the human population and I do it for the animal population.

Just as Salmon are fiercely determined to “go against the flow”, those of us at BARF® World continue to face challenges and  controversies regarding the benefits of feeding a raw diet. We remain The BARF® Pioneers!

Raw Food Tip:

n many cases dogs are fed kibble or dry food composed of inferior quality ingredients that have been cooked or heat processed. Heat processing alters the protein molecular structure and renders the product harder to assimilate and utilize in the body leading to a higher accumulation of toxins, inefficient organ system function and not surprisingly, allergies and skin conditions.  Normally it takes 4-5 years for degenerative disease and allergy symptoms to manifest – which is why we don’t begin to see itching, and scratching and hot spots in most dogs until they are about 5 years old.
