Well That’s The Way We Have Always Done It

Well That’s The Way We Have Always Done It
With Thanksgiving approaching and many of us gathering together with family and friends around the table to indulge in probably too much delicious food, I am reminded of a story about a family tradition. A young girl asked her mother why she cut both ends off of the Thanksgiving ham. Her mother replied, “Well that’s how your grandma did it, so that is how I do it”. The young girl turned and slowly walked out of the kitchen, unsatisfied with her mother’s answer. When her grandmother arrived, finding her way to the kitchen, the young girl followed. While her grandma was busy helping with dinner preparations, the young girl tugged on her apron and asked, “why did you cut off both ends of the Thanksgiving ham?” Grandma, crouched down, placed her hands on her granddaughter’s cheeks and simply replied, “Sweetie, I had to cut both ends off of the ham so it would fit in the pan.”
Just because the way something “is” does not mean that is the way it “ought” to be. For example, just because our parents (maybe even our grandparents) fed the family dog kibble doesn’t mean it’s what we need to be feeding our furry friends today.
For over forty years BARF® World has advocated the beneficial use of raw meat diets. For many of those years we have received negative opinions from the veterinary community. They feel justified in their opinions to preserve and guard the health of the animal from the dangers of bacteria and harmful pathogens. We, on the other hand want to preserve the health and well being of the animal by recommending the advantages gained from feeding a raw food diet. So who is right?
Our Vice President and co-formulator of the BARF® diet, Rob Mueller, Sr. has had ownership in multiple manufacturing facilities and has personally dispensed more than 100 million pounds of raw meat diets. We believe this gives him adequate justification to voice his opinion on the results from dispersing the amount of raw food diets. “I would gladly compare the problems and bacterial complaints with any dry kibble manufacturer that has been in business as long as I have.” Rob Mueller, Sr. goes on to say, “The bottom line answer is that dogs and cats have been designed to handle raw foods simply because of the physiological differences between animals and humans. They possess a much shorter digestive system and secrete much stronger stomach acid than humans. This strong acid barrier protects the animal from the dangers of most bacteria and pathogens. In contrast, one must compare the dangers when feeding a dry, heat processed kibble, not to mention the presence of toxic chemicals, flavoring agents, preservatives, aflatoxins and whatever else is allowed to be put into artificial foods.”
Right or wrong, there will always be pros and cons on both sides of the debate. However, here at BARF® World, Inc. we will continue advocating the diet from which we have seen the most remarkable results. The BARF® World diet has reversed thousands of degenerative conditions over the years and we have witnessed the many benefits derived from feeding a raw food diet. Our diets have been used for over forty years - that is a test of time and determiner of success.
