Why it’s Important to Check and Maintain your Yard

t was like any other day when I let Poppy outside to play. I didn't think much of it since she has been outside hundreds of times before. When she came back inside, I immediately knew she had gotten hurt. I went to check for any visible injuries and was unable to find anything. When I later took her to the vet, they confirmed that she had been impaled by an object outside.

Why it’s Important to Check and Maintain your Yard

Recently, we had a scare with one of our own fur babies. Poppy appeared to be injured after a day of being outside in my yard. Playing outside is a common activity for many fur babies, but with that comes potential risk for injuries.

It was like any other day when I let Poppy outside to play. I didn't think much of it since she has been outside hundreds of times before. When she came back inside, I immediately knew she had gotten hurt. I went to check for any visible injuries and was unable to find anything. When I later took her to the vet, they confirmed that she had been impaled by an object outside.

As a pet owner, I felt a lot of guilt for what had happened and wanted to try my best to make sure this didn't happen again. I immediately started looking around my yard and was checking for sharp objects such as:

  • Nails
  • Screws
  • Stakes left in the ground
  • Loose fence boards

It is important to be mindful of the potential harmful things, but it is also not something that can be 100% avoided.
