As we approach the winter months, it can often be difficult to find indoor activities to keep your fur baby occupied and active. If you find yourself in a situation where you are struggling to find activities to keep your pup busy, don’t worry we’ve got you covered! Here are some of our top tips to keep your pet stimulated and happy during the dreadful winter months.
It is always important to provide adequate activity and exercise, this is especially true during the colder months. Puzzles & scavenger hunts around your home help prevent boredom and are great activities when you need to leave your pet alone for an extended period of time. Simply hiding treats all throughout your home or any designated space to keep your pup active and to stimulate their brain as their natural senses kick in to find their favorite snacks! Our Freeze-Dried Nuggets are a great option for this and can also be fed as a meal! If you would like to hide a high-value training treat, our NEW Ravishing Rabbit Bites are also a perfect training treat.
You may also want to consider trying to teach your pup some new tricks! Some popular tricks with our office pups are:
- Crawl
- leave it
- Up
- High-five
- Shake
- Wait
These tricks are not only fun for your pup, but are a great way to pass the time and help train your pet! An indoor agility course or play with some new toys are also a favorite for our pups. My dog Jax loves when I launch his favorite squeaker toy down the hallway. Indoor agility courses are also a great form of exercise, and is one of our Brand Ambassador, Sonic's favorite activities. This can be done indoors and outdoors and is also a great training tool. Playing with toys can be a great form of activity. Things like tug of war can be fun not only for your pet, but for pet parents as well!
Lastly, if you need to keep your pet occupied for a longer period of time, it is also recommended to get treats that they can chew on. Stay tuned for a very exciting launch that will be perfect during the winter and warmer months. It is important to note: we do not recommend leaving your pet unsupervised for a long period of time with chews due to the potential choking hazard. We currently offer a wide variety of chews such as:
- Pizzles
- Thin, Small & Large
- Elk Antlers
- Small, Medium & Large Whole
- Small, Medium & Large Split
- Alpha Bone - Bison Bone
If you do choose to play outside during the winter months, make sure to dress accordingly and make sure that your fur baby is prepared to face the cold. Things like a paw pad shield or winter boots are great to use to prevent cracks. It can also protect against rock salt that can cause burns to paws.
