Adding Garlic to Your Dog’s Diet

Forget what you have heard about garlic for dogs! The use of garlic as a safe, medicinal plant in holistic medicine has been used for quite some time. It is only recently in the last decade that the safety of garlic for dogs (and cats) has come under close scrutiny due to its properties as a member of the Allium genus, a branch of the lily family, along with onions and shallots.

In my expert opinion and through my own experiences, the most natural of all treatments that can make your dog flea and tick-free for months is the use of garlic as a supplement.

Is this a miracle drug – NO.

Is it expensive – NO.

Does it work – YOU BET!

There is a misconception about garlic – that it is toxic for dogs at any level. Actually, garlic is one of the world’s most powerful antioxidant foods on the planet. It functions to boost the immune system which is the key to curing most diseases in dogs as well as in humans.

A Japanese study documented in the American Journal of Veterinary Medicine* concluded that a dog would have to consume unnaturally high amounts of garlic for long periods of time in order to become ill. These dogs were fed ½ lb. of garlic cloves for every 100 lbs of the dog’s body weight every day for a week. Results showed that no dogs became ill and only a small percentage of red blood cells showed oxidative damage. If these large quantities were continued to be fed long term, the researchers did believe that it could eventually cause anemia over time.

Using chewable garlic tablets as a supplement in addition to the BARF Diet can provide a 24-hour shield against fleas, ticks, gnats and mosquitoes. It is without question a safer and natural alternative to chemical treatments. It is worth a try and you might be pleasantly surprised at how effective it is!

If you are looking for a good supplement, Garlic Bug Off , is a great chewable garlic supplement, which works wonders.
